Show a lot of things happening at once. Remind everyone what’s going on. And with every shot you show a little improvement. To show it all would take too long. That’s called a montage. Even The Monster Squad needed a montage. And as we all know, every montage needs a peppy song.
Fred Dekker’s 1987 cult favorite The Monster Squad makes its triumphant return to B-Sides with one of those staples of 1980’s cinema: the montage. Before these kids can go off into battle against Dracula, the Wolf Man, and the Gillman, they first need an upbeat musical montage showing them getting their act together in preparation of saving the world. Cue Michael Sembello’s catchy pop rock number “Rock Until You Drop”.
As Trey Parker and Matt Stone established on “South Park” and again in Team America: World Police, you’re gonna need a montage!
