The Best Horror Movies Now Streaming On Crackle

Last Updated: May 3, 2024

Crackle is sneakily becoming one of my favorite streamers to surf. The horror selections are always all over the place, with many unheard-of and forgotten titles, every month. I’ve said it many times before, but the app makes me feel like a kid in a video store again. This month, they have a few films that have my attention, including Gargoyles (1972). A made-for-TV film that includes Bernie Casey in its cast, that I was starting to think was just an urban legend. After all, televised horror from the 70s isn’t something most mainstream sites pick up, much to my chagrin. So, long story short, I had a ball going through Crackle’s May offerings and choosing these five movies that I’m geeked to try out.

Ten Minutes to Midnight

A late-night host is bitten by a rabid bat and stalked by her replacement on the eve of her forced retirement. This movie is set inside of a radio station, so I’m expecting some Pontypool vibes. The irony of Caroline Williams (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) being the cast isn’t lost on me either. It’s a cool surprise for most horror fans off the bat. This 2020 horror thriller looks sick, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it.

Incredible Violence

After investing too much of his own money into his movie, a filmmaker locks his cast in a house and begins to kill them to finish his slasher. Most of us can relate to frustrated filmmakers taking matters into their own hands. However, this might be a little too far! This horror-comedy has a lot of potential, and I’m excited to see if it sticks the landing. Worst case scenario, I add a new slasher to my mental rolodex. So, it’s a win either way for me, and that’s what really matters.

Discarnate

A neuroscientist accidentally unleashes a supernatural force on his research team while working on a drug that allows humans to interact with spirits. This sounds like my kind of carrying-on, and I’m excited to check it out ASAP. I’m also giddy because the cast includes Nadine Velazquez (Crawlspace) and Bex Taylor-Klaus (The Killing). I keep wanting Velazquez to do even more horror. I am also a huge fan of Taylor-Klaus and have had a ball trying to keep up with their many genre roles.

The Lost

A 19-year-old sociopath meets his match when a new girl arrives in town. This is an adaptation of Jack Ketchum’s novel The Lost. I’ve been looking for something to fill the void left by The End of the F***ing since the series ended in 2019. I’m a desperate woman and will check out every title that sounds even remotely close to sparking that level of joy again. If this movie also flew under your radar in 2019, you might want to catch it on Crackle this month too.

The 6th Friend

When college friends throw a graduation party, an uninvited guest turns up causing things to end badly. When the group gathers five years later, things get even more deadly. I love movies about women coming together, and the end result is murder. So, I support this message and will be tuned all the way in when this lands on the app this month. I’m also just happy to have a reason to check in on Dominique Swain (Road To Nowhere) again.  I think this 2016 treat is just what the doctor ordered to distract me from the real world for 85 minutes. May it help tide you over while waiting for the return of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School.

Crackle is a free app you can download on all of your smart devices. You can also enjoy their entire film library directly on their website. While I’m a fan of their horror movies, the streamer is genre-agnostic and has a ton of random and hard-to-find titles for the whole family. However, why would you choose something that’s not scary is beyond me.
