‘Scream VI’ – Kevin Williamson Calls New Sequel “A big, huge, fresh reinvention”

Kevin Williamson deserves more recognition for his role in evolving the landscape of modern horror. In the 90s, this genre icon wrote Scream, Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Faculty, single-handedly ushering in the post-modern horror era. He also found massive success writing and creating long-running TV series like The Vampire Diaries and Dawson’s Creek.

Now horror hero Williamson is back with SICK, a brutal and relentless modern slasher I caught out of TIFF last year. While promoting the film, which hits Peacock today, the Scream scribe scared his feelings about the upcoming Scream IV, which he also produced.

“It doesn’t feel like ‘Part 6,’ it feels like you’re watching this big, huge, fresh reinvention,” Williamson recently told SYFY WIRE. “I love love, love, love it. I’ve watched the movie with a big smile on my face. I think it’s everything and more. And going to New York was awesome. The movie feels new, it feels fresh, it feels like a new movie.”

Returning are Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett at the helm and James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac) & Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock) co-writing the screenplay. Creator Kevin Williamson continued by adding “Radio Silence is amazing, they’re the perfect people to take the torch. I love Scream VI. It’s really good. It’s great. There’s no way around it. I’m very happy with how it turned out … I really do have all that enthusiasm for it. I’m really excited.”

While Neve Campbell will reportedly not return to the series this time, we will see the follow-up adventures of the surviving members of the Scream V ensemble. The movie is slated to be released into theaters by Paramount on March 10th, 2023.
