Chopping Mall Remake Ditches Killer Robots for Possessed Mannequins?

As some of you might know, director Robert Hall (Laid to Rest) has a remake of Jim Wynorski’s Chopping Mall in the works.

Recently, Hall sat down for a chat with Nightmare Toys and talked a bit about his vision – specifically his choice to ditch the killer robots and instead have the reboot’s main baddies be… possessed mannequins?

My version of Chopping Mall that I wrote is totally supernatural,” Hall says. “Instead of killer robots, they are these mannequins that are possessed by the souls of dead slaves that worked at the plantation that the mall was built over.”

Interesting approach. Not sure I agree with the new take, but it’s an interesting approach, for sure. And as long as they find a way to bring back Barbara Crampton for an extended role, or even a cameo, I’m in.

What do you think of Hall’s plan for his remake of Chopping Mall? Let us know below!

Chopping Mall (1986) synopsis:

Some people will kill for a bargain… and at the Park Plaza Mall, they do! Here, you can shop till you drop… dead! High tech robots equipped with state-of-the-art security devices have been recruited as the new mechanical “night watchmen” for the Park Plaza Mall. When a jolting bolt of lightning short circuits the main computer control, the robots turn into “killbots”… on the loose after unsuspecting shoppers! Four couples are trying to make it after-hours in a mattress store. They make it alright – in the morgue! At Park Plaza, you can save on everything but your life!
