Sundance 2011: Mordechai Says Prayers in Latest Red State Poster

A new character poster for Kevin Smith’s Red State has made its way online in the unusual yet admirable fashion of donating to charity, and we have a look at it for you! Meet James Parks (son of actor Michael Parks) as Mordechai!

As per a message from Smith on the Spinoff website:

If you’re a movie website or film journalist and you want to feature this poster or use it in a story, don’t be a detail-thin dick.

Be sure to tell people WHY the poster was released: because Spinoff Online bid $850 to South East Queensland flood relief cause in less than 30 minutes.

If you also include the link for the South East Queensland flood relief in your story/article, you’re not only being a thorough journalist, you’re also helping to save actual lives – lives whose progress you’ll be able to trace via The South East Queensland flood relief website. It only takes a few seconds longer to provide all available facts in any story. Including THIS fact can help save a life.

Red State is set to debut at Sundance. For more follow Kevin Smith on Twitter.

Synopsis:
Ever since Clerks (cowinner of the Filmmakers Trophy at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival), Kevin Smith has been known for his sharp, subversive, comedic writing. He shifts from comedy to horror with Red State and aptly demonstrates that good writing transcends genre. Red State begins by following three horny high-school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying “holy” force with a fatal agenda. Instead of relying on archetypes and predictable formulas, Smith meticulously fashions all-too-real characters, utilizing exceptional performances (notably by Michael Parks) and an intelligent script. His realistic style gives the film an intimate feeling, heightening the terror to biblical proportions. Red State is a shocking new kind of horror film that aggressively confronts higher powers and extreme doctrines with a vengeance.

“We are bad guys. That means we’ve got more to do other than bullying companies. It’s fun to lead a bad man’s life.”

    • Okay Sirand since you demanded it, and since DC can never seem to get enough of me even though they PRETEND they hate my rants, here goes!

Crappy poster. Clunky symbolism. And Kevin Smith fans are easier to please than a nymphomaniac in a cucumber factory.

      Thank you everyone! *bows*

        • It’s the chicken and the egg. We’re like a bad eighties sitcom.
