Exclusive Early Character Test Rendering: Night of the Living Dead Origins

We recently got our hands on some old test render footage from the upcoming Night of the Living Dead: Origins project helmed by our buddy Zeb De Soto.

Even though this was a very early test, what really stands out are the facial features and how natural their animation is. Zeb actually developed his own facial capture system to achieve these results, and we have to say the expressiveness in the eyes especially is pretty impressive. And it’s fast, too. Capture one hour of motion data, and you can sync it up to your footage in fraction of that time.

Obivously this is not a finished product, but if the stills we were sent a few weeks back are any indication, Zeb’s efforts are certainly worth checking out.

Having developed his own 3D motion capture setup called The Beast, and now creating a really impressive facial capture system, Zeb De Soto is undoubtedly pioneering some new territory that will surely benefit up and coming filmmakers in the years to come.

Director de Soto, who also pulls co-writing duties on the project, describes NOTLD: Origins, which will be in 3D, as “a living painting” and promises “no one has ever seen anything like this on the big screen.”

Lending their likenesses and voices to the project, which showcases a zombie apocalypse in New York City, are Tony Todd as Ben, Danielle Harris as Barbra, Joe Pilato as Harry Cooper, Alona Tal (Jo on “Supernatural”) as Helen Cooper, Bill Moseley as Johnny (reprising his portrayal of the same character in Tom Savini’s 1990 NOTLD remake), Erin Braswell as Judy, Mike Diskint as Tom, Jesse Corti (“Heroes”) as a news reporter, and Cornell Womack (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) as a no-nonsense New York cop.

The following is a test rendering of actor Michael Diskint (pictured below), who plays Tom is the new film.
