“Jigsaw is Kevin McCallister”: Surprising Revived Fan Theory Rocks the Internet

Kevin McCallister

Home Alone was a box office smash in 1990, pulling in more than $476 million at the global box office. The film has since spawned multiple sequels and a reboot. According to a Reddit fan theory, the film also functions as a prequel to the Saw franchise.

A few months ago, a Redditor posted a call for tinfoil hat theories from horror fans and one user replied to the prompt with the suggestion that Kevin McAllister grew up to be Jigsaw.

There are plenty of reasons why that theory doesn’t really hold water. But it’s still fun to think about. Young Kevin seemed to enjoy defending his home a little too much, if you know what I mean.

Several people have suggested that Kevin was a burgeoning psychopath and have used the argument that parental abandonment can trigger underlying issues to come to the forefront of the developing brain. And to be fair, if the flick were taking place in the real world, Marv and Harry probably would have suffered brain damage or death as a result of their various injuries.

But not everyone is ready to embrace the theory that Kevin is a psychopath, let alone that he is Jigsaw. One Redditor jumped to the boy’s defense, saying: “Kevin was constantly shown to be the sweetest and kindest character in the Home Alone films. He is an angel and would never hurt anyone unless it is explicitly to defend something or someone.”

While this fan theory is an excellent one, it’s not the first time the Internet has made the comparison. Check out this appropriate mashup trailer for Saw x Home Alone here:

While I like the Jigsaw theory, I have to concede that the first and second series installments both see the youthful protagonist bonding with someone disenfranchised from society. A psychopath wouldn’t be likely to do that, unless there was a selfish gain to be had.
