Netflix Sends Forgotten Sandra Bullock Thriller Surging Up the Streaming Charts

Premonition

Given my age, you can trust I’ve watched most every early-to-mid aughts horror/thriller release. I’ve seen the good ones (Darkness Falls), the bad ones (Nine Lives), and everything in between. What’s most remarkable is how often the highest-concept horror movies brought in big-name, A-list stars. Remember when Academy Award winner Julianne Moore had to contend with aliens in The Forgotten? Jennifer Aniston lent her talent to the absurd, layered, remarkable Derailed. It was a glorious era of elevated, Golden Age horror.

Beloved star Sandra Bullock’s trajectory into the genre was less surprising than most. After all, she led such classics as The Net (a movie I earnestly love), The Vanishing, and Murder by Numbers, a movie I inexplicably quote all the time. “Do you know why they call me the hyena?” Glorious, glorious stuff. It should come as no surprise for an actress who was at one time the highest paid in the world, then, that Bullock’s 2007 sleeper hit Premonition has augured a successful future and secured a top spot on the Netflix streaming charts. Let’s party like it’s 2007. Learn more below:

Per Netflix: Linda’s life is shattered when she learns her husband has died in a car accident. But when she wakes up the next day, he’s alive… and she has no idea why.

Does Premonition make a lick of sense? No. Does it feature a considerable number of shots of Sandra Bullock chasing after a semitruck? Yes, and for that alone, it’s worth a watch, especially if you missed it back in 2007. Fun fact, Anne Hathaway would lead Passengers one year later, which targets the same paranormal, temporal nonsense as Premonition. When will Passengers get its resurgence? It’s long overdue, I tell you!

Fans have been having a field day with the surprise success of Premonition. While I’d rather direct them toward Tsuruta Norio’s Premonition from 2004, this iteration is fine for what it is. It’s Sandra Bullock, after all. I could watch her spin yard and have the time of my life. Fans (mostly) agree, and you can check out some choice reactions to Premonition below:
