Stephen King Loves this “Terrific” but Controverisal Netflix Thriller

Stephen King Zero Day

Stephen King spends a lot of time on Netflix. That’s not a bad thing. It saves me from having to sift through the dozens and dozens of new titles added daily and instead wait for the master of horror to send via Twitter or Threads his current suggestions. Those suggestions often pan out. Like Stephen King, I was also a fan of last year’s underrated Blumhouse gem Night Swim. The dude just loves movies, and as someone who also loves movies, it’s always exciting to check in on what’s pinging his radar.

Like most of us, a lot of that comes courtesy of Netflix. For better or worse, the streaming service is the equivalent of the media front lines. Everything everyone is talking about is on there, whether it’s an old title making waves or some must-see new series. It’s home to fantastic international horror movies and sensational social thrillers. Recently, Stephen King has been checking out a controversial new limited series with as stacked a cast as they come.

Take the King’s word and check out more about the Netflix series Zero Day below:

Per Netflix: A former U.S. President is called out of retirement to find the source of a deadly cyberattack, only to discover a vast web of lies and conspiracies.

Zero Day, from creators Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, and Michael Schmidt, isn’t the runaway critical success Netflix executives likely thought it would be, especially considering the pedigree of the cast and crew involved. On aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, the Critical Consensus reads, “Zero Day has plenty of gravitas thanks to its all-star cast led by Robert De Niro, but this high-concept series’ plotting is a little too goofy for it to take itself so seriously.” It’s always great to see De Niro, especially in his television debut, but the broad reception is more lukewarm than fiery.

Critical reviews haven’t mattered much, since Zero Day is at least a hit with audiences. Since its premiere, the series has regularly topped the streaming charts. Stephen King himself is a fan, too, and he took to Threads to share his thoughts on the Netflix hit.

Check out his reactions below:
