Babylon’s Fall Sees Platinum Joining the World of GAAS
During the Square Enix show we got our first look at Babylon’s Fall in about 3 years. The game was original announced back in Square Enix’s 2018 conference, but it seems it’s back and includes a rework.
Being developed by Platinum Games, the game has you and three companions attempting to climb the tower of Babylon. It’ll feature 4-player co-op, in case you want to bring your friends along on this journey. The game will see you and your companions carrying various weapons in a coffin on their back, and cycling through these weapons to use various skills. In the trailer we got to see things like a staff to throw fireballs, big swords that do big slashes, shields to block attacks, bows for a long-range pew pew, and more. All of this is wrapped up in an art style that can best be described as “an oil painting,” which certainly looks neat.
However, one noticeable takeaway is that Platinum will be constantly giving Babylon’s Fall free updates. It makes it sound quite a bit like Destiny, and gives the impression that Platinum will be joining the world of GAAS. This isn’t a bad thing mind you, and hopefully Babylon’s Fall will have plenty of new content for quite some time.
If you haven’t heard of Platinum before, they’re the developers behind several beloved hits, including the Bayonetta series, Vanquish, Nier: Automata, The Wonderful 101, and Astral Chain. In a brief interview segment after the trailer, Platinum said they began work on Babylon’s Fall in 2017 after development of Nier: Automata concluded.
While there’s currently no release date, Babylon’s Fall will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. You can sign up for a closed beta right now on the game’s website, if you’re interested in trying the game out first hand.
