The #1 Netflix True Crime Series Is Terrifying The Internet: “It will make you really sick in the stomach”

American Nightmare Netflix

Can you imagine surviving a harrowing invasion and abduction to then have your local police department refuse to help you catch your assailants? Well, a new Netflix true crime series sheds light on a case where that exactly happened. American Nightmare landed on the streamer yesterday and immediately flew to the #1 spot on the charts. Watch the trailer and read the synopsis of the title that’s upsetting the internet this week.

Per the official synopsis,

“After a home invasion and abduction, a young couple’s recounting of the events is too far fetched for the police to believe. Why did the victims seem so calm? Was it all a hoax? From the filmmakers behind The Tinder Swindler, this three-part docuseries unravels the consequences of our cultural rush to judgment, and the damage done when law enforcement decides the truth can’t possibly be true.”

Twitter is understandably upset with the Vallejo Police Department for their refusal to do their job and work the case. Netflix viewers are shocked and appalled at what the survivors went through trying to get the people supposedly hired to serve and protect to even believe them.

American Nightmare is directed by Felicity Morris and Bernadette Higgins. The duo is best known for their documentary The Tinder Swindler, which is also available on Netflix.

The unbelievably frustrating tale of home invasion, kidnapping, and radically inefficient police work is broken into three parts. The entire miniseries is available to stream on Netflix.
