What Fans Consider Denzel Washington’s “Most underrated” Thriller Just Landed On Hulu!

Hulu has just added this hidden Denzel Washington thriller to its ever-growing list of classic thrillers. The late Tony Scott’s Déjà Vu is now available to stream. Per Hulu: Federal agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington) gets taken to a top-secret government lab that uses a time-shifting surveillance device to help prevent crime.

The crime in question is a devastating New Orleans ferry explosion resulting in 543 deaths. Washington’s agent Carlin’s deductive abilities pave the way for his introduction into the Snow White program, a secret government unit that will permit Carlin to travel back in time four days to investigate the bombing and hopefully apprehend the culprit. There’s action, romance, plenty of pseudo-science (satellites can recreate the past?), and more fun in a single beat than most contemporary thrillers manage their entire runtime.

Like the bulk of Scott’s filmography, Déjà Vu is as frenetic as it is tense. One of action cinema’s most influential directors, the late Scott could elevate even the highest concept of outings, imbuing them with his trademark realism and grounded stakes. The suspense works because it feels authentic. For all the gizmos and gadgets, Déjà Vu is as classically suspenseful as thrillers come.

Denzel Washington, a regular Scott collaborator (they previously worked on Man on Fire and would later team up for The Taking of Pelham 123), has rarely been better, contributing his trademark gravitas to Déjà Vu’s suspenseful race against the clock. Check out what fans online are saying:

Fans can’t get enough of one of Denzel Washington’s best, it seems. What do you think? Have you had a chance to catch Déjà Vu on Hulu yet? How does it compare to Washington’s other work? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
