Bone-Crushing Demons Threaten Humanity in ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ [Trailer]

When you think of anime, you probably conjure up images of Sailor Moon, Naruto, and comically offensive depictions of female characters. But what anime is more than that; it’s an incredible medium for the world of horror. Bodies are stretched and destroyed in ways that can’t be accomplished with live-action filmmaking. If you want to dip your toes into the world of horror anime, may I suggest starting with Jujutsu Kaisen and its upcoming film Jujutsu Kaisen 0?
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 follows Yuta Okkotsu, a nervous high school student. He enrolls in the mysterious Tokyo Jujutsu High School under the guidance of Satoru Gojo after being haunted by the curse of his childhood friend. The film is based on Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (JUMP COMICS / Shueisha), a prequel manga to the smash hit supernatural adventure series from Gege Akutami.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a beautifully animated and terrifying saga about Jujutsu sorcerers who’ve dedicated their lives to protecting humanity from demons. These demons are grotesque monstrosities of various power levels who love to feast on human blood. Each battle is a visual feast as each character unleashes their otherworldly abilities against creatively designed creatures. There’s even a character who’s a resurrected panda. Yes, it does fall into some expected anime tropes, but that’s not a bad thing.
The series, subbed and subbed, is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation. I highly recommend checking out the series then heading to theaters to watch the prequel!
The anime series is based on the best-selling manga of the same title. It’s sold over 60 million copies in Japan. In the US, VIZ Media publishes the series. The 2021 Crunchyroll Anime Awards named the series Anime of the Year in 2021.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 hits theaters on March 18.
