The CW’s rebooted The Lost Boys pilot had begun filming before COVID-19 shut everything down, but has since been “rolled” – which means The CW will re-evaluate its potential series for next season. That said, The CW president Mark Pedowitz says the series is a “passion project.”
Pedowitz says: “That has been rolled. I spoke to Rob Thomas and many of the people directly about this. Lost Boys is a passion of mine personally, having Rob attached to it. Once we get through this climate, we will make a determination on how best to proceed with Lost Boys. I’m hoping to keep it going.”
This series had already snagged its main cast with Branden Cook (Industry), Lincoln Younes (Grand Hotel), and Ruby Cruz (Castle Rock). Cook plays Garrett, a version of Jason Patric’s Michael from the original movie with Younes as Benjamin (a version of Kiefer Sutherland’s David), and Cruz plays Elsie (Jami Gertz’s Star).
The Vampire Diaries director Marcos Siega helms the new pilot while executive producer Rob Thomas co-writes the reworked script with Heather Mitchell.
Mitchell, Siega, and Thomas executive produce alongside Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz, and Bill Bindley. Rebecca Franko and Juliana Janes serve as producers.
Based on Joel Schumacher’s classic vampire flick, this CW version will center on a mother and her Gen Z sons who move to the seaside town where she grew up and discover there’s a sinister reason the local cool kids sleep all day, party all night, never grow up and never get old. Family bonds are tested as the brothers find themselves on opposite sides of a mythological struggle.
