Kiefer Sutherland Describes Extremely Gory Scene Cut from THE LOST BOYS

Despite featuring many teenage cast members, it’s important to remember that The Lost Boys (directed by Joel Schumacher and released in 1987) was rated R. Still, some scenes proved too gory for release. Kiefer Sutherland (who played head vampire, David) recently told Yahoo! about one moment that ended up on the cutting room floor:
“There was a scene that actually didn’t make the movie that I was really, really excited about, mainly because it was just so violent I couldn’t believe that we were doing it,” Sutherland tells Yahoo Entertainment. “It’s sort of in the movie — they cut around it — but there was a guy on a beach and he was bald and they had made a prosthetic cast of his head. And the part of the scene that I loved the most was literally, it was like a cake: I ate the whole back of his head off and blood just went everywhere. I had been directed to just smile like a child having cake, and the two images were so frightening and scary.”
Synopsis:
Teenage brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) move with their mother (Dianne Wiest) to a small town in northern California. While the younger Sam meets a pair of kindred spirits in geeky comic-book nerds Edward (Corey Feldman) and Alan (Jamison Newlander), the angst-ridden Michael soon falls for Star (Jami Gertz) — who turns out to be in thrall to David (Kiefer Sutherland), leader of a local gang of vampires. Sam and his new friends must save Michael and Star from the undead.
