Studio ADI is the practical special effects super-studio run by Stan Winston alums, Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Junior, both of whom are responsible for creating the monsters behind such massively iconic franchises as Alien, Predator, Tremors, Starship Troopers, Pumpkinhead, Annabelle, It (2017), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – the list goes on and on.
Having recently celebrated 30 years in business, Studio ADI has made a prolific pantheon of monster masterpieces and built a very amazing YouTube channel in the process. Their channel showcases a veritable treasure trove of historical creature creation footage that is sure to set off your nerd alert LOUD.

In addition to all of their insanely awesome monster-creation footage, Studio ADI has begun to make original content including Playtime; a quirky series of Child’s Play-inspired shorts that tell the story of a sentient animatronic doll who’s homicidal character has been replaced by CGI. The first installment, clocking in at a very viewer-friendly 2 minutes, is funny & nostalgic and the animatronic work done on the Billy doll is eerily effective. You can check it out here.

One of the things I’m reminded of when I watch ADI’s videos is that these gigantic mythical beasts were hand made by humans.
