The 10 Most Stressful Scenes In Cinema, According To Reddit [Watch]

Another week, another banger cinema question floating around Reddit. This week u/serialkiller24 asked the community to share the most stressful scenes ever shot. The people were more than ready to offer up nightmare fuel, and we’ve assembled the top ten scenes right here for your viewing displeasure. Check them out below:

10. The Blair Witch Project (1999)

Where You Can Watch: Plex  and Redbox

Three film students get lost in the Maryland woods while trying to make a documentary about a witch. This movie had plenty of scenes that screwed us up as children; however, Reddit thinks the ending is the most stressful moment. And I agree.

9. Nope (2022)

Where You Can Watch: Prime Video

Siblings discover something unexplainable is living in the sky above their desert home. People kept trying to pretend this wasn’t a horror movie, but how can you watch (and hear) so many people get eaten alive and still believe that?

8. Backcountry (2014)

Where You Can Watch: Hulu and Tubi

City folks go camping and find out they are no match for Mother Nature. Reddit went right to this boyfriend being turned into bear kibble. If the rest of the movie is half as stressful as this clip, I don’t need it in my spirit.

7. Barbarian (2022)

Where You Can Watch: Hulu and Max

A woman rents an AirB&B but discovers it’s already inhabited. This movie is so gross and wild that I couldn’t begin to predict which scene would be chosen. The people have voted, and it’s the creepy basement moment right before the first death. That scans.

6. Nocturnal Animals (2016)

Where You Can Watch: Netflix

A woman receives a manuscript from her ex-husband that rocks her world. This thriller has chaos kings Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jake Gyllenhaal, which has me stressed just typing those names together. However, the scene at the side of the road is extra gasp-worthy.

5. Under The Skin (2013)

Where You Can Watch: Max

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to a woman seducing men on a road trip. Reddit said this beach’s job is stress! They were not okay with a toddler being left alone on this scenic route to the afterlife.

4. Midsommar (2019)

Where You Can Watch: Showtime

A woman follows her worthless boyfriend and his friends to Sweden and gets involved with a pagan cult. Even if you don’t like the movie, you have to agree that the opening scene was hard to watch.

3. Hereditary (2018)

Where You Can Watch: Max

A family finds out their house isn’t just filled with grief in this creepy ASF movie. Reddit says the aftermath of the sister’s death is the most stressful part. I feel the moment Charlie discovers the gourmet party cake the teens made had nuts in it right up to the ending is the most stressful part.

2. The Strangers (2008)

Where You Can Watch: The Roku Channel

A couple’s breakup is interrupted by a home invasion. I love this movie because it’s nothing but stressful moments highlighted with a whimsical soundtrack. The Reddit community said the man appearing in the background is what sends them screaming. Take a peek.

1. Silence Of The Lambs (1991)

Where You Can Watch: Max

A young cadet and an incarcerated cannibal must catch a serial killer on the loose. I think Hannibal’s insults are the scariest part of the movie, but I can definitely see why others think the night goggles scene is a close second.

Is your favorite stressful scene from cinema on the list? Or did Reddit fail you? Let me know at @misssharai.
