Radio Silence Talk Vicious Vamps and ’30 Days Of Night’

Abigail Radio Silence

Abigail, the latest from Radio Silence, is twirling across the big screen, delighting and terrifying viewers since its opening on April 12, 2024. The new film from the directing duo, made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, is their first original production since they tackled Scream 5 and 6, and it proves they still have it when it comes to fountains of blood and dark comedy.

Abigail is a horror-heist film, a subgenre I personally want more of. The ragtag group of criminals (made up of Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, and the late Angus Cloud) kidnaps a young girl named Abigail (Alisha Weir). While they assume she is merely an innocent child, she quickly reveals she’s more than a girl in a tutu. She’s something way worse.

Having the blood-sucker dressed as a ballerina gives Abigail another layer of camp, especially as Weir leaps over dead bodies and pirouettes through viscera. In an earlier interview with Dread Central, Gillett said of the titular vampire, “The whole night for her is a show, is a performance in and of itself, and the way that she looks, the way that she moves was always a reflection of that.”

In this video interview, Mary Beth McAndrews spoke with Radio Silence about an underrated vampire gem, stellar locations, and crafting their vamps’ teeth.
