New DUNE Will Hit Theaters Internationally Two Weeks Early

Denis Villeneuve’s epic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune might hit theaters internationally early. While this hasn’t yet been officially confirmed, we hear it will hit big screens everywhere (other than the US) on September 15th.

This comes to us from Boxoffice Pro France.

This news makes sense. After all, the last we heard was that the film might skip out on the HBO Max deal. Warner Bros. hopes for “a traditional theatrical to preserve its franchise potential.” Especially since its release “falls well after the estimated late spring date when Covid vaccines should achieve herd immunity.”

Villeneuve directs Dune from a script he wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, based on the novel. Chalamet, Ferguson, and Brolin’s co-stars include Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, and Javier Bardem. Charlotte Rampling joins in with Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Jason Momoa, Stephen Henderson, and Zendaya.

Dune finds Duke Leto Atreides accepts stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis. Also known as Dune. The only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, the spice. It’s a drug that extends life, provides superhuman thoughts, and makes space travel possible. Leto knows the opportunity is a trap. But he takes his concubine Lady Jessica, young son and heir Paul, and most trusted advisers to Arrakis. Leto takes control of the spice mining operation. A bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.

Rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some disturbing images, and suggestive material. Dune hits theaters and HBO Max on October 1, 2021.
