The streaming age is a curious one. As sure things like The Fall Guy flop at the box office, auguring a frightful summer ahead of us, older thrillers, making their debut on streaming, top the charts. It’s all the more confounding given how regularly the chart-toppers made nary an impression when first released. That’s what’s happening with the Liam Neeson vehicle Blacklight, a 2022 release that is presently Number One on Hulu. Check out a synopsis and trailer below:

Per Hulu: Travis Block, a shadowy government agent who specializes in removing operatives whose covers have been exposed, uncovers a deadly conspiracy within his own ranks that reaches the highest echelons of power.

A critical and commercial flop– Blacklight grossed a meager $16 million against a $43 million budget– the movie has luckily found new life on streaming. It reminds me a lot of when The Snowman, another disastrous release, incredulously topped the Netflix charts when it was added to the streamer last year. Audiences like bad movies, I guess?

Naturally, fans have taken to Twitter to share their reactions on Blacklight. Some are catching it for the first time, while others are revisiting it after some time away. Check out some choice online reactions below:

Clearly it isn’t Liam Neeson’s best, but that hasn’t stopped it from topping the charts. A name like Liam Neeson, especially in today’s age, is often enough to pull an audience in, especially for a low-stakes, weekend stream on a platform like Hulu. Even if the movie is terrible—which, it turns out, a lot of fans are discovering—it’s a lot easier to stomach online than with the cost associated with a trip to the theater.
