Was Drew Barrymore’s SCREAM Look Inspired by Barbara Crampton?

The folks at the UK horror mag What Monster took to Twitter this morning with an observation that has horror fans doing a double-take. Did anyone else ever make this connection?

From the hairstyle to the ribbed white sweater, Drew Barrymore’s Casey from Scream (1996) is a spot-on double from Barbara Crampton’s Megan Halsey from Re-Animator (1985). The resemblance seems too striking to be a coincidence, leading us to believe the similarity is an intentional homage.
Wes Craven directed Scream from a screenplay penned by Kevin Williamson. Casey’s death in the film’s opening sequence was a shocker, upending established conventions and setting the stage for the meta-horror revolution that followed. It seems likely that, in a film that references so many other horror classics, Craven would have included this shout-out to Re-Animator.
Stuart Gordon directed Re-Animator, which is based on the short story “Herbert West, Re-Animator” by H.P. Lovecraft. In addition to Crampton, the film stars Jeffery Combs and Bruce Abbott. Synopsis:
