Well, The Host sure is doing well outside of the US, where it got a decent release instead of just an arthouse run (don’t think I’m complaining; it’s better than nothing) and it was announced via the trades today that the film picked up a total of 4 Asian Film Awards at the recent inaugural event.
That makes it the biggest winner, scooping up an award for nearly half of the categories eligible. The Host won for best film, best actor (Song Kang-ho), best cinematography (Kim Hyung-goo) and best visual effects (The Orphanage). So why the hell haven’t you gone out to see it yet?
If you’re in Toronto there’s a damn good chance you could see it for free. The folks putting on the Toronto After Dark Film Festival have scored 10 free passes to an advance Canadian screening of The Host set for March 28th; if you want to take your chances and are in or near Toronto, just send your first and last names right here by 12pm on Friday, March 23rd to enter to win!
If you’re here in the States, check your local listings; hopefully The Host is playing somewhere near you. This is one film that definitely needs to be seen in theaters!
