Relativity Nabs Rogue
After months of negotiations Variety reports that Relativity Media has officially snapped up Rogue Pictures from the hands of Universal Pictures, closing the deal for around $150 million.
The acquisition means that Relativity is now in charge of all the existing Rogue films, as well as future endeavors like the Strangers sequel and Wes Craven’s 25/8. They plan on releasing at least two Rogue films per year going forward. Universal will still be distributing Rogue's output through most of the world.
What does this mean to us, the horror fans? Not much, actually, just that any deals that were put on hold pending this buy-out can now move forward, and the positive words from Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, ”[Rogue has had] success in the horror space in particular, which is something we can expand upon." Damn straight!
