Craven is Back!

West Craven directs horror again! So maybe you thought that Wes Craven was turning his back on the horror genre after Red Eye proved that he can be successful in other genres? How wrong you would be, friend, how very, very wrong.

Variety broke the news today that Craven is getting ready to write and direct his first horror film in 12 years (as all the Scream films and so on were penned by other writers), which unfortunately was not given in a name in their online article. He describes it as similar to The Sixth Sense with a 16-year-old central character and a far cry from any slasher film. "It's appalling to me that you have to go back to 1994 to find an original that I wrote and directed," he told the trade, "so this is very important to me."

But even that’s not enough for the man. He’s also formed a new production shingle under Rogue Pictures called Midnight Pictures with plans to produce horror movies on modest budgets ($15 million and under). Long-time producer Marianne Maddalena has been hired to run Midnight, and their first release will be the upcoming Last House on the Left remake, which you’ll recall Rogue snapped up the rights to back in August.

At the very end of the trade’s story, it states that a director is still being sought out for the Last House remake, so I guess the recent news that David Moreau and Xavier Palud, the directorial team behind Ils (review) wasn’t exactly the truth ... that or Variety screwed up. We’ll let you know as soon as we do!
