Who says the general public has no muscle? Horror fans? We're a rowdy and robust bunch. We like what we like and we aren't afraid to cause a ruckus to get what we want. That being said ... you wanted it? YOU GOT IT! Paranormal Activity is now poised to open wide!
A couple of weeks ago Dread Central hosted our own free midnight screening of Paranormal Activity to a sold out crowd hoping to get the shit scared out of them. Was their wish granted? Check out our exclusive video from after the screening!
One city several our readers have been hoping to see Paranormal Activity screen in is Pittsburgh, and we are happy to report that it is indeed included in the 12 new markets where the film will open this weekend due to your demands.
One indie filmmaker who couldn't be more hot right now is Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli. Though we've been talking about his next film, Area 51, for over a month now, the project has finally firmed up an official start date!
Were you one of the many viewers who caught a midnight screening of the haunted house phenom known as Paranormal Activity? Then you may just see yourself in one of these eight videos Paramount shared with us today.
The little film that we have been raving about for over two years, Paranormal Activity, has been throwing Hollywood for a complete loop these last couple of weeks, and we couldn't be happier for all parties involved. In fact, the film is doing so well that in response to all of your DEMAND IT feedback, Paramount is opening the film even wider and in regular all-day rotation.
Every once in a while the stars align and good things happen to this genre we all call our own -- and to the people who make the movies we love. Case in point: Every single screening of Paranormal Activity sold out last night, and the film is looking to rake in $500,000 for the weekend. Hearty congrats to filmmaker Oren Peli and to Paramount, which has executed a textbook successful marketing campaign for the film.
As you guys are well aware, we've been following the progress of Paramount's "Demand It" campaign for Paranormal Activity closely, and today we got an update.
You wanted it. You demanded it. Paramount has listened. Dread Central and Bloody-Disgusting have just gotten an exclusive letter from the director of Paranormal Activity (review here), Oren Peli, with some very good news!
Dread Central was present at two of Paranormal Activity's midnight screenings this past week -- in Austin at Fantasic Fest and in Boston (read our report here) -- and preliminary box office numbers indicate the enthusiastic crowd reactions we saw were mirrored at every other location where it played. In addition, Paramount reports that the film's website has been "bombarded" with over 200,000 requests for additional screenings.
The first woman in line waited 5 hours. Those who jumped in behind her stretched down the alley, across the back of The Coolidge Theater, round the corner and down the street past the theater again ... and then even farther on down the road!
Between the Paranormal Activity midnight screenings that took place last night and Dread Central's Fantastic Fest activities that are ongoing in Austin, TX, this weekend, we're stretched a little thin so thought we'd just cut to the chase with the latest developments on two projects that we're keeping a close eye on: Zebediah de Soto's 3D Night of the Living Dead: Origins and Oren Peli's Area 51. Most of the info on both came to us via Twitter.
Did the free midnight screenings of Paranormal Activity (review here) pass you by? Is it not playing close enough to you? Well, here's your chance to do something about it!
With the limited release of Paranormal Activity finally coming this weekend, the LA Times has published a great article on the two-year journey the film has taken from inception to release, detailing everything from the possible remake to Steven Spielberg's "experience" with it to its bumpy road to distribution.

Now that plans have officially been firmed up, it's only right that we actually bring you a free Dread Central sponsored screening! Are you ready, Boston?
