Another YA Adaptation Is Coming - The Testing from Paramount

Another YA Adaptation Is Coming - The Testing from ParamountAnd the quest to find the next Twilight/Hunger Games blockbuster continues as Paramount acquires screen rights to The Testing, a young adult novel by Joelle Charbonneau, which was just published this week.

Per Deadline, the dystopian book about the rebuilding of the United States after natural disasters and biological war has pretty strong word of mouth already, having been named a #1 Indie Next 2013 Summer YA Pick and one of the Top 10 Young Adult Books for Summer by USA Today. In the US it's published by Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, and foreign publishing rights have already been sold in the UK, France, Israel, Korea, The Netherlands, Turkey, and Germany.

No producer, director, or writer has been attached to the project yet, but we expect to be hearing lots more soon. In the meantime here's the book's synopsis:

It’s graduation day for sixteen-year-old Malencia Vale, and the entire Five Lakes Colony (the former Great Lakes) is celebrating. All Cia can think about—hope for—is whether she’ll be chosen for The Testing, a United Commonwealth program that selects the best and brightest new graduates to become possible leaders of the slowly revitalizing post-war civilization. When Cia is chosen, her father finally tells her about his own nightmarish half-memories of The Testing. Armed with his dire warnings (”Cia, trust no one”), she bravely heads off to Tosu City, far away from friends and family, perhaps forever. Danger, romance—and sheer terror—await.

NEXT STORY

How ironic will it be when our actual dystopian future turns out to be one in which the only literature and movies are dystopian YA novels?

Honestly, this crap sounds like The Hunger Games and looks like The Hunger Games.
