Robert Rodriguez Provides an Update on Machete Kills
In case you were hoping to see Lindsay Lohan reprise her role from Machete in the film's sequel, Machete Kills, that's not happening, but director Robert Rodriguez has revealed a few other tidbits about the production and a potential third installment.
Rodriguez recently spoke to MTV about the film, and while his lips were mostly sealed with regard to plot details, he did say he's having a blast editing the movie. "I've been editing progressively," he said. "I'm about halfway through my 'happy edit' — my edit that makes me happy. It's fun. It's a fun movie, man."
As for why Lohan didn't return as the gun-toting April, Rodriguez said, "We thought to bring her back because we like that character, but it didn't fit into the story."
And what about the long talked about Machete Kills Again in Space, which would send Danny Trejo into outer-orbit to kill bad aliens and get space-women? "[W]e'll have to see what happens in this one. There are some cliffhangers. It's gotta end in a very 'Empire Strikes Back' way. You gotta want to know what happens to everybody."
Open Road Films will release Machete Kills - directed by Robert Rodriguez (Machete, Sin City, Spy Kids franchise) from a screenplay by Kyle Ward and based on a story by Marcel Rodriguez and Robert Rodriguez – on September 13, 2013. The film stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror, and Mel Gibson.
In Machete Kills, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man - he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.
