*UPDATED* Exclusive: Phantasm 5 a Reality
You read the headline. You have the same questions we all do. While at this point in time we cannot elaborate on many details, we can tell you this... the ball has definitely not stopped spinning, and there are wonderfully ghastly things on the way!
Before we get into details surrounding what we know, remember this - we rarely publish stories that are pure rumor, and if we do, we're very upfront about it. We would NOT tell you guys that Phantasm 5 is happening and happening soon unless we were at least 95% sure of the news. That being said...
We just got off the wire with our very own Rob Delamorte, who has been informed by an extremely reliable source that Phantasm 5 is fully scripted and will begin filming this year. You can expect to hear more about this one soon.
Let the speculation begin.
Update
As expected, as of right now some of the folks behind the Phantasm franchise are either remaining tight-lipped or giving statements such as Don Coscarelli did to Bloody Disgusting... "I have no solid news to report on a new project now," which is kind of a standard and dubious answer. Why not just say this is definitely not happening or all the reports are false? There's always a margin for error when running a news site, but we're sticking to our guns with this one. Time will tell. Stay tuned.

I guess....it's not a reality...

Best news in a long time. I love me some Phantasm...
But they better do it now, I don't think Angus has much time left as a functional human being...

Great news!
Funny enough last week I was thinking that he should try and get funding through Kickstarter.

Of course Coscarelli's doing it. It is his weird, fucked up baby after all.
FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC NEWS!

im I the only one who actually DOESN'T want a Phantasm 5? seriously the ending to the last film was sooo "what the fuck" (in a good way) that it left every single viewer having their own interpretations of what the ending meant and even the storyline of the whole Franchise... in a way I don't want that turnished
I know I am in the vast minority here

Personally, I'd rather see Coscarelli's proposed Bubba Nosferatu take flight instead of another Phantasm flick. Bubba Ho Tep was a work of genius...I'd love to see where else Coscarelli can go with the concept.

Phantasm IV was interesting but I didn't feel it was entirely successful, much of it felt like the compromises of a director who needed more resources to tell the story he wanted to share.
If Coscarelli has a script and a budget he can work with I'd love another film in the franchise. I don't think it spoils the atmosphere of the fourth.

Still a bit lost in the Phantasm world. Just hope they don't screw it up like this last Hellraiser flick.... Sad lil movie. Peace

Looking forward to it, the first two are absolute classics while the other two are decent enough.

I hope Coscarelli can get the money for this. I know there have been several attempts to get this series up off the ground again. I'd love to see a dramatic conclussion to the series.

Great news.
Love this series (well, the third film is a little sketchy) but was always hoping for one more entry to wrap it up in style.
Of course, I hope Cosacrelli is doing this. I won't be excited otherwise.

Agreed. I enjoy all these films (even the third film in some ways) and would love to see Part 5, only if Coscarelli comes back.
