Season 2 of Science Channel's The Unexplained Files Kicks off July 29thA love of horror often goes hand-in-hand with a curiosity about the paranormal, and if you’re as intrigued by the latter as we are, then read on to learn more about “The Unexplained Files,” which kicks off its second season with a look at the truth behind The Exorcist.

About “The Unexplained Files” Season 2:
“THE UNEXPLAINED FILES,” Science Channel’s most watched series of 2013, is returning on Tuesday, July 29th, at 10 PM ET/PT for a second season of examining strange, mind-boggling phenomena that science cannot – or will not – explain.

In Season Two 12 all-new episodes will launch viewers into another gripping exploration of the unknown by investigating the most puzzling, global incidents from the United States and Russia to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mexico, and more.

Using dramatic reconstructions, riveting never-before-seen footage, first-hand eyewitness accounts, and expert interviews, “THE UNEXPLAINED FILES” takes a scientific look at the inexplicable, uncovering paranormal activities that have mystified scientists, inspired legends, and captured the human imagination for centuries. Many of the stories featured will reveal new evidence and bring forward previously undisclosed eyewitness accounts to shed light on stories that have baffled experts for years.

“For Season Two we’ve uncovered deeper mysteries that are bound to leave our audience confounded and motivated to continue the search for answers,” said Rita Mullin, General Manager, Science Channel. “That’s one of the great qualities of ‘THE UNEXPLAINED FILES’ – it always leaves you with more questions and wanting to know more. We’re excited to once again capture imaginations and explore strange happenings involving religion, animals, ancient structures, mythical giants, and more.”

“We all know there are stories that don’t quite make sense, incidents that exist beyond reason or explanation,” said Sarah T. Davies, Vice President, Development, Factual, DNI. “In its second season, ‘THE UNEXPLAINED FILES’ uses journalistic investigation to probe the unknown, leaving audiences baffled and excited by the results.”

In Season Two’s world premiere episode, “THE UNEXPLAINED FILES” investigates the real story of the exorcism that inspired the film The Exorcist. For the first time Brother Greg Holewinske, who is the last living eyewitness to the exorcism, will discuss his experience and his unique role in the terrifying exorcism. Brother Greg is a member of the Alexian Brothers, and this episode of “THE UNEXPLAINED FILES” marks the time a member has spoken about what happened during the exorcism.

Also in Episode 2.01, Science Channel takes audiences inside the story of 100 elk who were found dead on a New Mexico ranch in the summer of 2013. An initial examination revealed that all died within 24 hours. With no bullet wounds or other immediate explanation, the cause of death is a mystery and one of several cases of native herding animal deaths across North America.

Season Two of “THE UNEXPLAINED FILES” will feature a number of factual stories from around the globe, venturing to Bosnia-Herzegovina, where a geologist claims to have found pyramids that predate the ancient pyramids of Egypt by 7,000 years. In another episode “THE UNEXPLAINED FILES” follows the latest expedition to the remote Lake Labynkyr in Siberia, Russia, where people have reported seeing a large, underwater creature. Searching through the fissures and tunnels, experts may have discovered completely new strains of life under the lake’s surface. The series also examines a strange connection between UFOs and nuclear weapons. For years military personnel in the US, the UK, and Russia witnessed UFOs over nuclear installations, and in some cases all nuclear warheads stored there have become inoperable. Are UFOs targeting sensitive nuclear weapons sites?

These unsolved mysteries and more explored in the series stem from reliable sources who offer shuddering accounts and daunting evidence that will leave the audience contemplating whether these odd predicaments and occurrences are true or stranger than fiction.

Season Two of “THE UNEXPLAINED FILES” makes its world premiere on Science Channel Tuesday, July 29th, at 10 PM ET/PT. The series also will premiere on Discovery Channel outside the US in more than 220 countries and territories across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific later this fall.

“THE UNEXPLAINED FILES” is produced for Science Channel (U.S.) and Discovery Networks International by Raw TV Ltd. for Science Channel (US) and Discovery Networks International. For Science Channel, Neil Laird is executive producer, Bernadette McDaid is vice president of production, and Rita Mullin is general manager. For Discovery Networks International, Sarah T. Davies is commissioning editor and executive producer. For Raw, Dimitri Doganis and John Fothergill are executive producers.

Published

on

On the hunt for a new comic and like a bit of humor with your horror? Then the upcoming Death of Love from Image Comics should be right up your alley! Dealing with a broken heart? Even better!

Writer Justin Jordan (The Family Trade, Spread) teams up with artist Donal DeLay (You are Not Alone, My Geek Family), colorist Omar Estévez (Heavy Metal Magazine, Batman ‘66), and letterer Rachel Deering (In the Dark, Vertigo Quarterly) for the least romantic Valentine’s comic ever: Death of Love.

“Love is funny. Chainsaws are funny. Love AND chainsaws, therefore, is gonna be super funny,” says Jordan. “Basically, if you’ve ever wanted to see Cupid torn apart in increasingly hilarious ways, this is definitely the comic for you.”

“I just want everyone to laugh the same way they would watching Army of Darkness or This Is the End,” added DeLay.

Issue #1 arrives on Valentine’s Day (February 14th) next year, and we have a preview of several pages to share below.

Synopsis:
Love sucks. And Philo Harris is going to do something about it.

After a particularly bad, drunken decision, Philo gains the ability to see the Cupidae, the creatures responsible for all the love in the world, and declares war on love itself. With a chainsaw.

Paramount’s Dating App Thriller Snags The Boy Next Door Screenwriter

Published

on

Are dating apps scary? Paramount sure hopes that’s the case as they have just hired screenwriter Barbara Curry (Blumhouse’s The Boy Next Door) to pen the upcoming “dramatic investigative thriller” Gasp.

Hiring Curry for this film makes a ton of sense being that before Curry was the screenwriter behind “dramatic investigative thrillers” she worked as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s office for ten years. Qualifications galore.

Deadline reports that Gasp is centered around a female detective investigating a killer who is targeting women via a dating app. Nice. Not only is that a super-timely and creepy plot for a flick, but the film is supposedly based on several true stories.

Heaven help us. I knew it. Stay away from those. Male or female. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Now while I’ve never had a bad experience (re: stalker) from a dating app that makes sense considering I never use them. Ever. I prefer the old-school method of sitting in my room alone typing horror news articles and letting the ladies come to me.

12% of the time, it works every time.

The film is based on a pitch by Mario Celaya and produced by Jennifer Gibgot and Adam Shankman. Jessica Sharzer (“American Horror Story”) is co-producing.

We’ll let you know when we hear more!

Synopsis:

A female detective goes undercover online to catch a killer who is murdering women he meets on a specific popular app. But when she starts to fall for one of the suspects who has been cleared, she discovers he may, in fact, be the killer.

Alien: Covenant’s Carmen Ejogo Joins True Detective Season 3

Published

on

“From the dusty mesa her looming shadow grows…”

The first season of HBO’s “True Detective” was one of the best seasons ever put on a TV screen. Hands down. The second season was another story altogether. While not a complete waste of time (Colin Farrell owed) the season was basically merely ‘meh’.

But what about “True Detective” season 3?

Well, a few months back it was announced that the third season had been greenlit by HBO, with creator Nic Pizzolatto returning to pen the series and director Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room) taking the helm of the episodes.

Today we have news that Carmen Ejogo – who you may recognize Ejogo from such recent fright flicks as It Comes at Night, Alien: Covenant, and The Purge: Anarchy – will be joining the previously announced Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) for Season 3.

Ejogo will play the female lead, Amelia Reardon, who THR describes as “an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980.”

Nice Pizzolatto will serve as showrunner and direct alongside Jeremy Saulnier. Executive producers include Pizzolatto, Saulnier, Scott Stephens and season one stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as well as original director Cary Joji Fukunaga. Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Richard Brown are also credited as exec producers.

Synopsis:

A macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.
