Screen Gems Developing Underworld: Next Generation2012 saw the release of Underworld: The Awakening, the fourth installment in the mega-popular Underworld franchise, which introduced Selene and Michael’s hybrid daughter, Eve. Will Eve become the new Selene in future installments? Read on for details!

Bloody Disgusting reports that they’ve learned Screen Gems is actively developing a fifth installment in the series, tentatively titled Underworld: Next Generation. Though no plot details have been revealed, the title certainly implies that Eve will be the main protagonist of the film, but we can only speculate at this point in time.

Len Wiseman will produce, and the studio is currently seeking a writer and director. Kate Beckinsale is not yet officially attached, though that could of course change as the project inches its way closer to reality.

I’ll be angry if the next one doesn’t involve Selene.

Evolution was a nice enough cap on Selene’s story that they could have written her out of things from that point on. But Awakening can’t be the end of things for her, it felt like half a movie and left things wide open at the end.

Kate may be tired of the role, but it would be nice if she would come back once more so that they could close out her story properly.

I have to admit, I like the mythology of this series and I’d be done for a spin-off franchise.

Agreed. For me a good send off for Selene is as simple as reuniting with Michael and then…quite literally driving of into the sunset (or sunrise). She’s reunited, they have a kid…anything for them down the road is trivial.

I thought ‘Evolution’ summed up the Michael/Selene storyline fine. Was hoping ‘Lycans’ would kick off some prequel spin-offs; but that’s probably just me, a big fan of seeing more ‘period’ genre action films. Machine guns, rockets, cars are awesome…just want to see more swords, horses, and bows mixing with creatures.
With Sony developing their own content for Playstation 4 and more TV content…surprised they’re not mining this franchise for a series. Got a whole universe to play with and certainly popular enough.

Still, I’ll be down for one more rodeo depending where they go with it as long as the threads are wrapped up. ‘Awakening’ had it’s issues but was entertaining by day’s end (3D was very good too) but it left it too annoyingly open ended for my liking.
