During last night’s NFC Championship game, a TV spot for Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s “The Strain” aired, and in case you’re not a football fan, of course we have it here for you!
Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (co-authors of the novel on which “The Strain” is based) co-wrote the pilot, which del Toro also directed. Carlton Cuse serves as showrunner and writer. Gary Ungar executive produces the FX Productions series.
The story centers on Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
Regina King play Ruby Wain, the smart and accomplished manager of philandering rock star Gabriel Bolivar (Jack Kesy), while Melanie Merkosky plays Jim Kent’s (Sean Astin) wife, Sylvia, who is suffering from cancer.
“The Strain,” aiming for a July 2014 debut for its 13-episode first season, also stars Mia Maestro, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Ben Hyland, and Miguel Gomez.
