Showtime Will Not Let Dexter DieThe Showtime series “Dexter” was great when in its prime, but the last season? The final season? Holy cow, was that bad. If you haven’t seen it yet, count yourself as one of the lucky ones. In any event…

At the network’s presentation during the 2014 Television Critics Association press tour, Showtime’s president, David Nevins, revealed there’s still a chance for a “Dexter” spinoff, and that if it happens, it would be about… Dexter. Um… wasn’t the last show about Dexter? Color us confused. Read on for details courtesy of IGN.

Said Nevins, “It’s something we continue to talk about. If we were to do it, we would have to have a very good reason to do it. It would have to feel like it’s a new show. I’m not interested in doing it if it’s just a continuation… There have been some light, ongoing conversations. It hasn’t really gone anywhere yet. It would have to involve Michael [C. Hall].” Asked to clarify whether he meant as a producer, Nevins said he meant onscreen, remarking, “I think if we were to do it, I would only do it if it is with Michael.”

Harry continues to spin in his grave.

Hire entirely new writers – GOOD ones this time – and don’t try to magically resurrect any of the dead characters, and I might at least give it a chance. I think for me, it would have to be a really good extended plot and not one that involves the weekly minutiae that became so tedious in later seasons of the original. None of this crap about the personal lives of a bunch of supporting characters or Dexter trying to live his normal life. Maybe he’s out in the woods waxing his beard and witnesses a murder…tries to report it to the police because he doesn’t want to be the old Dexter…police can’t find a body and don’t believe him…someone tries to kill him…he ends up on the run from the bad guys…Bourne Identity 5 starring Dexter…ah fuck it.

Oh lord, just let it die. I wish I had stopped watching before season eight, so I did not have to see it go down in flames, but the news just continues to get worse it seems. Hopefully, this potential spin-off never sees the light of day.
