Zero Budget Superhero The Amazing Bulk Skulks onto DVD in April

From the director of Aliens vs. Avatars and the producer of Metal Man comes the cheapest, zaniest, most astounding no-budget superhero mockbuster The Asylum never produced. Once you’ve feasted your eyes upon the trailer for The Amazing Bulk, then you will be able to die knowing you truly have seen everything.

Henry “Hank” Howard, an ambitious young scientist, struggles to develop a superhuman serum designed to improve muscle mass and prolong life expectancy. His boss, the grumpy General Darwin, will not allow Hank to marry his daughter, Hannah, until the experiment is a success. Against Darwin's wishes Hank proposes to Hannah anyway, but his life is shattered by a mugger who steals his engagement ring. Dejected, Hank injects himself with the experimental serum and is transformed into the Amazing Bulk.

The Bulk goes on a rampage through the city, destroying everything in his path. Hank is caught by a relentless detective, imprisoned by Darwin, and forced to battle the sadistic Dr. Kantlove, who threatens to blow up the moon with his arsenal of weapons.

If I may quote myself from the article I wrote about this film almost one year ago when the trailer for The Amazing Bulk first appeared online to the astonishment of all that viewed it:

With stock footage, green screen, and computer effects that make Xtranormal look like Pixar, director Lewis Schoenbrun (Dr. Chopper, Queen Cobra) has made what looks to be a mixture of live-action actors surrounded by the green screen aesthetics of a cheaply made TV show designed for preschoolers. For all its budgetary limitations, the visual look almost achieves a level of cartoonish artistry, like if Zack Snyder was left to fend for himself with only a laptop, a green screen, and a box of Crayolas.

Tempe Video will be bringing this giant, purple, butt cheek flashing, superhero flick starring Jordan Lawson, Shevaun Kastle, Terence Lording, Juliette Angeli, Randal Malone to DVD on April 17th. Extras will include a featurette, storyboards, deleted scenes, and trailers.

Now behold the Bulk in all his raging purple glory!

NEXT STORY

Cinemascribe's picture

One day,far in the future, a race of hyper-intelligent intergalactic beings is going to stumble across a lifeless, decaying Earth and -their curiosity piqued by the crumbling remnants of our civilization- they'll undertake a massive Archaeological expedition to learn more about this bizarre species calling themselves Homo Sapiens who once held dominion over this world.

Then they'll stumble upon the DVD of this film , think to themselves "Good fucking riddance" and abandon their pursuit, having decided that we really weren't worth following up on.

I will, however, give MAAAAAD props to whoever decided that the background for this particular atrocity would be the appropriate place to position a billboard advertising the ABBA-centric Broadway musical "Mamma Mia!" That..was epic.

There's no way this can be as amazing as Metal Man.

Straight up this really isn't that much worse than any other CGI creation. They usually pull me out of a movie only this one is so low budget absurd it's actually forgiveable.

Why? Because they modeled their character after him and didn't pay him a penny? :)

That's hilarious, Foy. But if I recall correctly, Creepy hated The Amazing Bulk as much as you guys (and everyone else) hated The Devil Inside.

I believe he called it one of the worst movies he'd ever watched. I could at least appreciate the effort that went into crafting something of that nature on such a non-existent budget and chuckled a few times. But the last ten minutes... Unless this film has a new ending I think most people that see it are going to come away feeling the same way Creepy did.
