We’ve been talking about WGN America’s first original scripted series, a drama titled “Salem” from Brannon Braga (“24,” “Star Trek: TNG,” “Terra Nova”) and Adam Simon (The Haunting in Connecticut), for several months now; and finally some casting news has come for the show.
Per Deadline, Janet Montgomery (“Made in Jersey,” Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead, The Hills Run Red, “Entourage”) has been tapped as the lead in “Salem,” executive produced and directed by Richard Shepard.
Also joining the 13-episode series, set to premiere next spring, is “Being Human” and “Nikita” alum Xander Berkeley in the recurring role of Magistrate Hale, one of the Salem’s Selectmen, a company man who believes in pomp and circumstance.
Set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, “Salem” explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials. The series centers on Mary Sibley (Montgomery), the beautiful and ruthless, yet vulnerable, wife of the ancient, ailing, but very wealthy George Sibley, one of the Salem town Selectmen.
