Fox Swats The Fly

Fox Swats The FlyIn a world where everything just short of the kitchen sink is being remade by Hollywood, you really have to wonder why a major studio would put the kibosh on another remake/sequel from one of the top directors working in the field who actually wants to work on the project. Sadly, that's exactly what has happened.

Last month David Cronenberg announced that he'd completed a script for a new version of The Fly which was more a sequel than a remake and that it was under consideration at 20th Century Fox.

Now according to IndieWire Cronenberg has broken the news that the studio wasn't so keen on his new take, telling them, "I wrote a script, and at the moment Fox is not wanting to do the project."

I mean why should they, right? There are dozens of other foreign films and odd cult films in the works. Sigh.

i cant dream up a single good reason why fox would think a new cronenberg fly movie is a bad idea.

I hope the screenplay gets leaked at least. I'd sure love to read it. The pass on Fox's part doesn't really shock me. This is Tom Rothman after all and Fox is hardly the place where horror films get made these days, isn't it?

Screamz's picture

That's too bad. Cronenberg's take on The Fly is one of my favorite films. Would have loved to see a sequel/remake from him. It has to be better than The Fly II, right...
