Whether you like it or not, a remake of Poltergeist is headed our way, and shooting in fact already began in Toronto earlier this week. A little late to be learning of casting news, but that’s exactly what we’ve got for ya.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, “Touch” star Saxon Sharbino has been cast in the film, and will be playing 16 year old Kendra Bowen, the eldest of the three Bowen children.
Kendra is described as a typical teen, isolating herself from her family to focus on her friendships. When she realizes that her new home feeds on the isolation of others, she must band together with her family to help save her youngest sibling.
Sharbino joins the previously announced Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Kyle Catlett.
The story follows the Bowens (Rockwell and DeWitt), whose life is suddenly disrupted after a supernatural force takes over their home and begins terrorizing them.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), a division of MGM Holdings Inc., has partnered with Fox 2000 Pictures, a division of Twentieth Century Fox, to co-finance and distribute Poltergeist.
Gil Kenan (Monster House) directs from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful). The film is produced by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) and Rob Tapert (The Possession) via Ghost House Pictures along with Roy Lee (The Strangers). Nathan Kahane (The Grudge) serves as executive producer.
In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.
