Exclusive: Writer/Director Mark Vadik Talks the Upcoming Witchboard Remake
While chatting earlier today with writer/director Mark Vadik about his upcoming serial killer flick Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, the filmmaker opened up to Dread Central about what is shaping up to be his next directorial project- a remake of the 1986 classic Witchboard.
Vadik said, “I just finished the script on the Witchboard remake. I am a huge fan of the original film, especially with Tawny Kitaen in it, so I was really excited to come aboard the project. And it looks like it’s most likely going to be the next movie I will be directing.”
Since it seems like every day there’s news of a brand new horror remake in the works, we asked Vadik to talk about what his approach to creating the new Witchboard will be. ”It’s so hard to walk the remake line in the industry, especially when you enjoy the original film so much, so I will admit I had some doubts about coming on board the project at first. But then I spoke to the producers to get a feel of what they wanted to do with it, and after talking to them about their intentions, I felt a little more comfortable coming on to write and direct the film.”
“My own litmus test was to see if I thought I could bring something new to the story for a new generation of fans, and after reading the script, I think there will definitely be something for new audiences and fans of the original. Our story arc and characters are all akin to the original, but we are definitely not planning a straight shot-for-shot remake either. I wasn’t interested in redoing an already great movie so we do have a few surprises in this new one planned,” added Vadik.
