After a few days of teases, the first official trailer for Paramount’s zombie extravaganza World War Z has arrived, but strangely, we still don’t have an official synopsis. Expect one soon, and look for the film in theatres on June 21, 2013.

Brad Pitt plays a U.N. employee racing against time and fate as he travels the world trying to stop the outbreak of a deadly zombie pandemic, and his Plan B shingle is producing. Mireille Enos (“Big Love”, “The Killing”) plays his wife, a mother of two girls. Their co-stars include Eric West, Matthew Fox, David Morse, and James Badge Dale.

Honestly I’m curious. Personally I would have gone for a more faux-documentary style for interviews of participants mixed with traditional narrative for the memories; but that’d probably come out too fractured a story for the screen. I’m willing to give it a chance to see if Pitt’s character experiences certain stories from the book; giving them more of a connection beyond zombies.

And for the CGI; ya know…CGI is here to stay. Period. No matter what can be said or done; it’s here and isn’t going away. Every film uses CGI no matter how big or how small. The days of Cecil B. DeMille marshaling thousands upon thousands or even in the film ‘Waterloo’ where 15,000 extras in uniform were used….those days are long gone.

When I hear a film called World War Z; yeah I expect THOUSANDS of zombies coming at the characters. On set, even a film with a big a budget as this; maybe marshall a hundred or so. That’s not on an epic scale.

I’m perfectly fine with CGI being used when there’s no real practical alternative or when it’s enhancing what’s already there.

I’m guessing the zombies wipe themselves out by trampling each other to death.

I believe the word you’re looking for is “zomnami”.

        That sounds right.

It’s World War Z in name only, this film looks to piss on everything Max Brooks established in his books. So sad, not even sure I would Netflix this CGI turd.

They’re focusing on the reporter? That’s like a Fantastic Four Movie that focuses on The Watcher. So they had a plethora of stories to choose from World War Z and they went with… none of them? No thanks. Too much damn CGI.
