Vincenzo Natali Talks Possible Next Projects

Vincenzo NataliWith a big opening weekend ahead of him, Vincenzo Natali took a few moments at a recent Q&A in LA to let fans in on just what the visionary director would like to tackle in the future.

Natali is looking at three different books for possible adaptation - Brian Williams and Roderick Gordon's young adult series Tunnels, the ever-so-controversial William Gibson novel Neuromancer, and finally an adaptation of J.G. Ballard's High Rise, which Natali promises would make his latest flick "look like a Disney movie." Here's to hoping these happen. Bring 'em on, brother!

Check out the literary synopses of each below courtesy of Amazon.

Neuromancer Synopsis:
Case was the hottest computer cowboy cruising the information superhighway -- jacking his consciousness into cyberspace, soaring through tactile lattices of data and logic, rustling encoded secrets for anyone with the money to buy his skills. Then he double-crossed the wrong people, who caught up with him in a big way--and burned the talent out of his brain, micron by micron. Banished from cyberspace, trapped in the meat of his physical body, Case courted death in the high-tech underworld. Until a shadowy conspiracy offered him a second chance -- and a cure -- for a price ...

Tunnels Synopsis:
14-year-old Will Burrows has little in common with his strange, dysfunctional family. In fact, the only bond he shares with his eccentric father is a passion for archaeological excavation. So when Dad mysteriously vanishes, Will is compelled to dig up the truth behind his disappearance. He unearths the unbelievable: a secret subterranean society. "The Colony" has existed unchanged for a century, but it's no benign time capsule of a bygone era--because the Colony is ruled by a cultlike overclass, the Styx. Before long -- before he can find his father -- Will is their prisoner ...

High Rise Synopsis:
From the author of the Sunday Times bestseller Cocaine Nights comes an acclaimed backlist title -- the unnerving tale of life in a modern tower block running out of control -- now reissued in new cover style. Within the concealing walls of an elegant forty-story tower block, the affluent tenants are hell-bent on an orgy of destruction. Cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on 'enemy' floors and the once-luxurious amenities become an arena for technological mayhem! In this classic visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as the inhabitants of the high-rise, driven by primal urges, recreate a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.

I hope he picks (or gets it off the ground) 'High Rise'.

I still remember what an agony it was to slog through 'Neuromancer'.
