We’ve been counting the days like that godforsaken Silver Shamrock jingle, and we’re finally at the home stretch: Halloween has come again! And for us at Dread Central, the official kick-off for the season is Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights at the end of every September.
As always, creative director John Murdy invited us in to get a sneak peek at this year’s attractions with a make-up demonstration and costume gallery. This year’s big headliner seems to be The Walking Dead: Dead Inside, and Murdy says that Greg Nicotero and KNB have brought their magic to make this maze as authentic as possible. Also new is Welcome to Silent Hill, which he says will be a blend of both the movie and game series (we’re sure it’ll be better than the last few entries) while a sequel to Alice Cooper’s maze (my personal favorite) will take the place of last year’s House of 1000 Corpses with Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D. Returning is the Mexican-themed La Llorona while The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: This Is the Law promises to be based more on Tobe Hooper’s original film tham those deplorable Platinum Dunes films.
Rounding out this year is another trip to the Terror Tram and Universal Monsters Remix, which focuses on the good ol’ classics in their House of Horrors attraction.
Keep your eyes on Dread Central for a sneak peek of The Walking Dead maze as well as our annual coverage of the Eyegore Awards and the grand opening of Halloween Horror Nights.
Halloween Horror Nights kicks off on Friday, September 21, 2012 and continues on select nights through Wednesday, October 31. Event dates are: September 21, 22, 28, and 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.
Tickets and vacation packages are on sale now. Details on “Halloween Horror Nights” are available at Halloween Horror Nights.com. Updates from Creative Director John Murdy can be found on Twitter, as he reveals a running chronicle of exclusive information. “Halloween Horror Nights” maze announcement videos can be seen at Universal Studios Hollywood’s YouTube Channel.
