Vampires Go Biblical with Will Smith in The Redemption of CainFor gamers out there like us who get excited any time they see anything remotely resembling a reference to The Legacy of Kain video game, sadly, this is not our day. Instead we have vampires putting the bite on the good book with Will Smith making it all happen.

According to The Wrap, Sony Pictures Entertainment is moving forward with The Redemption of Cain, an epic retelling of the Biblical tale of sibling rivalry. The project, which is in development, is aiming to begin filming in July 2013. The film, which tells the story of Cain and Abel with a vampiric twist, is looking at shooting in London and Jordan with the exteriors shot in Morocco. Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment is producing the film. Francine Maisler is coming on to cast the film in the next few weeks.

Reports surfaced earlier this summer saying Smith wanted to direct the film. Two years ago he was reportedly going to star in and produce the project, which was then called Legend of Cain, for Overbrook, based on a script by Caleeb Pinkett.

What’s with all the upcoming Bible shit? Has Hollywood finally run out of movies to remake that it’s gone back to the Bible for stories to screw up?

Cain and Abel and vampires? What’s next, Moses versus Mummies?

Will Smith and the I am Legend adaptation. Need anything more be said?

The further from horror Smith stays the happier I am.

Hooray for Hollywood! Caleeb Pinkett, otherwise known as Will Smith’s brother-in-law, has never had a screenplay adapted before, but it looks like his first attempt will get a nice big-budget studio backing thanks to his connections. I hope he has some chops, because I like the synopsis and would like to see this movie turn out good.
