First Word on The Mourning Portrait

Back in the early days of photography, when people died, their families would pay to have photos taken of their dearly departed as a means to preserve their memories of being together. Ghoulish -- yes. Hard to look at -- sometimes. Perfect fodder for a horror movie -- DEFINITELY.
Shock Till You Drop got the first details on director Paul Schattel's latest film for the company who brought us (ACK!) Funny Games, Belladonna Feature Films, starring Garret Dillahunt, Melissa Leo, and Diane Ladd, The Mourning Portrait.
"It's about those creepy post-mortem photos often taken in the early 20th Century," he tells Shock. "People who read the script remarked how it felt (tonally at least) like Guillermo del Toro's 'The Devil's Backbone' - sort of a thinking man's horror film."

Could be ineresting. I think Catholics still take pictures of their dead (Polish Catholics anyhow) as I was offered one by the parents of a deceased friend.
Who wants to remember their loved ones as a corpse? I'm a serious horror fan and I find that in poor taste. Then again so is Catholicism.
