R.I.P. Chas. Balun
With 2009 on its way out, we at Dread Central were hoping that we'd be clear of bad news as we prepare to ring in the New Year. Sadly, we just learned about the passing of one of our own. Chas. Balun. He was 61 years old.
Fangoria got word today that the artist/journalist lost his battle with cancer on December 18th.
Chas. had a voice as razor sharp as any, and his insightful and often hilarious dissection of the genre that we all love made him an unparalleled force. If you haven't had the pleasure, remember Chas. for the horror freak he was and seek out copies of his books Horror Holocaust and Beyond Horror Holocaust. They certainly helped shape the way I approach criticism and his passion and enthusiasm for horror is evident in every word.
Rest in peace, brother. We'll all miss your irreplaceable voice.

It could be argued that Terminator 2: Judgment Day is the best of the series; certainly Arnold never looked better than he did in his portrayal of the T-800 sent to protect young John Connor. And thanks to Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles, soon you'll be able to add a brand new version of Arnie's T-800 to your collection.

I loved his articles in Fango and his books...
Rest in piece...Chas was a major contributor/defender to the genre.

oh, fucking hell... this is a total fucking bummer... Chas Balun's Horror Holocaust and Deep Red handbook allowed me to greatly expand my horror movie knowledge and find great scary and gory horror movies. I even have a signed copy of his first novel. This just sucks. R.I.P. Mr. Balun, or, as he would probably prefer to have it said, Rest In Pieces ;) . Another terrible loss to the horror community.
