Clarice, Based on The Silence of the Lambs, in Development at LifetimeNot to be outdone by NBC’s “Hannibal”, which is heading our way at mid-season, Lifetime is putting a feminine spin on things by developing “Clarice”, based on the Clarice Starling character that earned The Silence of the Lambs star Jodie Foster an Academy Award for best actress.

Per TV Guide, “Clarice” will follow the exploits of a young Starling soon after she graduates from the FBI academy. MGM is producing the series, which Lifetime boss Nancy Dubuc first hinted may be in the works during the network’s recent Upfront presentation.

As originally envisioned in author Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lecter series of books, Clarice grew up in West Virginia until she was 10, when her father, a police officer, was shot and killed. She moves to her uncle’s farm in Montana but later runs away and winds up in an orphanage. After college she applies to the FBI academy.

No need to worry about any overlap with “Hannibal”, from Bryan Fuller, as it doesn’t include the Clarice character, instead focusing on the relationship between Hannibal and FBI criminal profiler Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy).

In other news the show will be 80% product placement for feminine hygiene products. Characters will even go so far as to hang tampons from their ears to start what manufacturers hope will be a new trend.
