While there have been many rehashes and follow-ups to Bram Stoker’s original Dracula novel, there has never been an official sequel put on paper. Until now.
According to the NY Post, Dacre Stoker, Bram Stoker’s great-grandnephew, has penned a sequel to the original novel along with Long Island screenwriter Ian Holt, which even has the official backing of the Stoker Estate, the first to have such a designation since the original film adaptation starring Bela Lugosi.
Titled Dracula: The Un-Dead, the book was sold to Harper UK, who will handle foreign distribution, and Brian Tart of Dutton, who will handle domestic distribution. The book, which supposedly includes characters and plot threads from Bram Stoker’s own notes, will hit U.S. stands in October 2009. It's also out to studios for a film adaptation. Let the bidding war begin!
Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt will be doing a panel on Saturday, July 25, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

How does being some dead guy's great grandnephew get you a fucking book deal? I wish I were Charlotte Bronte's great great great 15th cousin thrice removed so I could write a prequel about Mr. Rochester's life before he went to the West Indes and make a billion dollars.

This great grandson was on NPR last week. I can't say for his writing ability but he seemed thoughtful at least.

I read a sequel to it once. It was all about Mina. It was pretty boring.

Dumb.
Still, it can't be any more terribly written than any of the other horror novels being released, these days.

Remember when they hired H.G. Wells' great-great grandson to direct The Time Machine remake? Heh.
