If there was anything catching fire on the internet yesterday, it was the news that The Hunger Games director Gary Ross would not be returning to the mega-hit franchise. However, it sounds as if that news may have come prematurely, and if there’s anything we hate around here, it’s coming prematurely.
Deadline is hearing from multiple sources close to Catching Fire that director Gary Ross has not formally withdrawn from The Hunger Games sequel. Ross is off on a family vacation and couldn’t be reached, but Deadline claims those internet reports that described his withdrawal as definitive are simply not accurate.

The sequel to the 2008 bestseller continues the story of Katniss Everdeen and the fictional, futuristic nation of Panem. Due to the events of the previous novel, a rebellion against the ruling Capitol has begun, and Katniss and fellow tribute Peeta are forced to return to the arena in a special edition of The Hunger Games.
