Show of hands -- Who here knows what Augmented Reality is? And did you think you'd ever see it used for a movie poster? Well, thanks to Lionsgate, the answer to that second question is a resounding "Yes!"
According to Wikipedia, AR is a field of computer research which deals with the combination of real-world and computer-generated data (virtual reality), where computer graphics objects are blended into real footage in real time. Think the yellow "first down" line seen in television broadcasts of football games or the colored trail showing location and direction of the puck in TV broadcasts of hockey games.
Lionsgate premiered the first-ever augmented reality movie poster on IGN, who in turn provided the following explanation and video demonstration:
Print out the i-Con seen below on a piece of paper, log in to the augmented reality website for Gamer, turn on your webcam, and see the movie poster in 3D on your computer monitor. The image keys the tech to display a 3D image of the movie poster.
Visit the film's official site here, and look for Gamer in theatres September 4th!
