A Perfect Getaway to Get a Director's Cut

Good news for fans anxiously anticipating David Twohy's thriller A Perfect Getaway! Turns out by the time the film hits home video, we'll have a shiny new director's cut waiting for us to sink our teeth into!

Twohy writes on his blog:

"Also busy doing a “Director’s Cut” of APG for DVD market. I put that in quotes because, since I’m pretty happy with the theatrical cut, this particular version of the movie is really kind of an “Extended Cut” thing: I’ll probably drop 10 minutes of footage back into the movie. The theatrical version is rated “R,” and the Director’s Cut will be unrated, as these things usually are."

Synopsis
Cliff and Cydney (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe they've found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back.

Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins.

A Perfect Getaway will be in theaters on August 14th. Check out the trailer below.

Sounds like he's just putting stuff that was cut for good reasons back into the film. In cases like this it's usually the theatrical version that is better. In my opinion a director's cut is only necessary if the studio took the film away from the director and made it into something he can't identify with.
