We’ve been talking about Axelle Carolyn’s new short film The Halloween Kid for a few months, and now that it’s about to have its world premiere at BUFF, the prestigious International Children and Young People’s Film Festival in Malmo, Sweden, in March, Carolyn has released a teaser trailer to celebrate.
The Halloween Kid stars Julian Glover, Anna Walton (Hellboy 2), Dave Legeno (Harry Potter) and Leo Donnelly with narration by Sir Derek Jacobi. It’s produced by James Webber, Ben Robinson, Neil Marshall and Axelle Carolyn. Executive producers are Robert Meyer Burnett, Giles Daoust, Kai Meyer and Daniel Martin Eckhart with Michael Hudson as associate producer.
“We’re really looking to capture the spirit of Halloween in this short film,” says Axelle on The Halloween Kid website. “Sweetness and spookiness, golden colors and dark shadows…” She continues, “I’d never thought of it as a children’s film while we were making it, but once someone had suggested the idea, it seemed to make sense. Like the works of the people who inspire me (in this case, geniuses like Edward Gorey or Guillermo del Toro), it mixes fantasy and the supernatural in a way that seems suitable for children. And the lead is seven years old.”
