Christmas hasn’t even gotten here yet, but The CW is obviously ready to ring in the New Year as the network also known as a genre fan’s best friend has provided us with synopses for the mid-season returns of “The Vampire Diaries” (Episode 3.10-“The New Deal”), “The Secret Circle” (Episode 1.10-“Darkness”), and “Supernatural” (Episode 7.11-“Adventures in Babysitting”). Read on for all the details.

The Vampire DiariesEpisode 3.10 “The New Deal” (1/5/12 Air Date; 8:00-9:00 PM):
A REASON TO FEEL GUILTY — Stefan (Paul Wesley) has hidden the coffins containing the bodies of Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) family, and Klaus quickly turns to violence to convince Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) that no one will be safe until he finds Stefan and gets his family back.

Tyler (Michael Trevino) continues to make the most of his new abilities as a hybrid, but he has to face the disturbing consequences of his actions as well.

After a terrifying incident, Elena and Alaric (Matt Davis) grow increasingly concerned about Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) attitude and, ultimately, his safety. Alaric meets the beautiful Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey Devitto, “Pretty Little Liars”), who is intrigued with his amazing ability to heal. While trying to strike a deal with Klaus, Elena delivers news that truly shocks him.

Kat Graham also stars, and Internet personality Justine Ezarik guest stars as a bartender. John Behring directed the episode written by Michael Narducci.

The Secret Circle
Episode 1.10 “Darkness” (1/5/12 Air Date; 9:00-10:00 PM):
CASSIE REVEALS HER DEEPEST SECRET YET — Cassie (Britt Robertson) turns to Adam (Thomas Dekker) when she uncovers a secret about herself that she needs kept from the rest of the Circle, including Diana (Shelley Hennig).

Meanwhile, Diana is thrilled when her grandmother Kate (guest star Stepfanie Kramer, “Hunter”) drops in for a visit, but Charles (Gale Harold) is suspicious of his mother’s motives after Kate takes an unusual interest in Cassie.

Faye (Phoebe Tonkin) recruits a mysterious stranger named Lee (guest star Grey Damon, “Friday Night Lights”) to help her with a spell that could change the balance of the Circle forever.

Jessica Parker Kennedy and Natasha Henstridge also star. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by David Ehrman.

In addition, The CW is running a marathon of “The Secret Circle” Episodes 1.04-1.09 from Monday, January 2 through Wednesday, January 4.

Supernatural

Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) decides to help a teenage girl (guest star Madison McLaughlin) look for her father (guest star Ian Tracey), a hunter who has gone missing.
